Hallo Leute,

eventuell hat ja jemand Interesse, das Programm zu testen:

My name is Marek Starobrat. I am computer engineer and programmer. Apart from my professional job, I am interested in computer history, especially in evolution of the operating systems. Hence, my interest in CP/M and CP/M-86.

As a hobby project several years ago I decided to create a two-panel file browser similar to the famous Norton Commander. This year I made up my mind to release its first CP/M-86 version named "Pirx Commander for CP/M-86".

The biggest problem with such a one-man software project is the test phase. I am looking now for volunteers who would like to take a look a do some basic tests. I would like to avoid a situation when - after the first release - it would appear that it doesn't work at all and crashes all the time because I forget something...

So, I will be happy if you would accept to be one of the first testers of the Pirx Commander.

Der Pirx Commander ist bereits veröffentlicht, aber noch in der Beta-Testversion (siehe unten).

Aus meinem Post in der comp.os.cpm Gruppe:

Pirx for CP/M-86 interprets CP/M disk user areas as one-level subdirectories whith names, what makes it easier to manage files on a disk (see screenshots in the release file).

Pirx has a built-in file viewer. It displays file contents both in text- or in hexadecimal-modes. You can also search a file for text or byte string. A simple, standalone text editor RockEdit has been included in this Pirx's release, too.
As a kind of "bonus track" for the CP/M-86 diehards and explorers, two additional non-standard functions have been added: PC memory viewer and disk logical sector browser.

Pirx has been tested (under the PCe and PCem emulators) with classic CP/M-86 1.1 and Concurrent CP/M-86 3.1. It seems also to run well under Personal CP/M-86 2 and Concurrent DOS 4. Nevertheless, any further tests are welcome.

I encourage you to read the Pirx User's Guide (PIRXMAN.TXT) first in case of any problems or doubts.

I release it with a hope that the Pirx Commander will be useful in your own work with the CP/M-86 operating system.

schönes Projekt, leider habe ich mit CP/M86 keine Erfahrung und auch kein lauffähiges System am Start.

vielen Dank für deine nette Worte. Dieses Projekt ist praktisch beendet. Das einzige was ich vorhabe ist eventuelle kritische Fehler zu entfernen.

Hampa Hug hat seinen eigenen IBM PC XT-Emulator namens PCe entwickelt. Was für uns besonders interessant ist, hat er zu Testzwecken fertige Images von damals gängigen Betriebssystemen für 8086 vorbereitet, z.B. PC-DOS, Xenix, Coherent, Minix und natürlich CP/M-86.
Einfach herunterladen, entpacken und ausführen (ohne Installation!).

Wenn Du den Pirx ausführen möchtest, schlage ich vor "Concurrent CP/M-86 3.1" herunterzuladen und dort fd1.pfdc durch PirxDisk.img (umbenannt in fd1.img) zu ersetzen. Das ist alles.
